Mick Galvin Dublin Footballer of the Year
Local player Mick "the Pocket Rocket" Galvin was named Dublin Footballer of the Year on the eve of last month's Leinster Final against Round Towers of Kildare . The Dublin Champions went on to defeat Round Towers and now face An Gaeltacht of Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final on February 22nd. Mick Galvin played like a real star against Round Towers with his trademark blocks and hard hitting shoulders . He also scored 1-01 and thats some achievement for the man who is not renowned for his shooting skills . Mick had to fight off stiff competition from the likes of Jason Sherlock , Senan Connell and many Dublin stars to win this much coveted award. Mick Galvin , as a dual player , has been outstanding all year long for the St.Brigid's footballers and hurlers, reaching the senior county finals with both teams and it is clear that very few players in Dublin would begrudge Mick his award. Mick lined out at left-half back all year long and any player he marks will certainly know they have had a tough game . Mick gives his opponents little time on the ball and tirelessly covers the turf. The whole community is now looking forward to the Semi-Final against An Gaeltacht. Mick is a past pupil of St. Francis Xavier N.S. and Coolmine Community School. He lives locally in Carpenterstown and has been playing hurling and football with St.Brigid's since he was 9. He works as a software engineer and his ambition is to win an All-Ireland Club Championship medal with St. Brigid's . A well-known local family , the Galvins are all actively involved in the GAA . |
