St Brigids Susan Keegan wins Ladies All-Ireland Hand-Ball Title

Roisin O?Hagan (Derry) vs. Susan Keegan (St Brigids, Dublin)

Local Girl, Susan Keegan who hails from Blanchardstown was crowned Junior Ladies All Ireland Handball champion this month after winning her final against Roisin O?Hagan from Derry Susan who was player of the year with St Brigid?s in 1999 has been enjoying a fantastic season winning her last 6 matches including 3 Leinster medals in Singles and Doubles. This was a very evenly matched contest though in the first set, Susan began well and it looked like it was going to be an easy match. She held on to the early lead to win the first set 21-7. In the second set, Roisin changed tactics and it appeared to be working. She went three ahead in the set but Susan came back to level the set at 6 points each.. It looked very much like the match would have to go to a final deciding set with Roisin playing with great determination. The set was soon even at 13-13 and Susan took a time out. At the restart Susan found another gear and finished the set strongly to win like a true champion on a score of 21 ? 15 winning the match by two sets to nil. St Brigids is delighted to have another All-Ireland Hand Ball champion in their ranks to join the likes of Eoin Kennedy and others who have brought glory to the Castleknock & Blanchardstown club year after year. Not content with one All-Ireland Medal, Susan is now going for the doubles Handball All-Ireland Championships with her Hand Ball partner Tracy Hutchinson. Susan and Tracy have recorded many successes to date and Maria McCarthy, their coach has great hopes of the girls bringing back two more All-Ireland medals to the club. If you would like to know more about handball at St Brigid?s just drop down to Russell Park on Monday nights (behind the Esso Garage on the Navan Road) and ask for Maria.
