St Brigids crowned Feile Champions 2003 - Fri, 16 May 2003 A first in the history of the club as the St Brigid?s U/14 girls won their first Division 1 Dublin Feile title beating southside rivals Cabinteely in the final. Tara Carolan opened the scoring in the first few minutes with a fine point, to settle the nerves of the Brigid?s girls. With Katie Murphy and Shona Barrett controlling midfield, St Brigid?s exerted all the pressure in the opening ten minutes. It was during this period that Lara Brennan produced an excellent punched goal to stretch the lead for the northsiders. Cabinteely responded in style sending over two unanswered points but that was to be their only scores of the first half as St Brigid?s once again took control and stretched their lead with a superb goal from dynamic corner forward Sarah Fay and a well taken point from half forward Noelle Healy. This left the half time score at 2-2 to 0-2. Cabinteely staged a comeback at the start of the second half with midfielder Cathriona McGilp coming more into the game. They added another two unanswered points to their tally through captain Sarah Kidney and midfielder Cirara Murphy. But solid defence from Danielle Powell, Danielle Murphy and Alison Davis stemmed the tide and Brigid?s responded with two points of their own, the first an excellent free kick from the 45m by Tara Caralon and the second from play by Katie Murphy. Although Cabinteely never gave up the chase adding a further two points, victory for the Brigid?s girls was secured by an unstoppable strike on goal from centre forward Tara Carolan. This left the final score at 3-4 to 0-6 in favour of the Blanchardstown Belles. Minor Board Chairperson, Owen O?Sullivan was on hand to present the Feile Cup to St Brigid?s captain Alison Davis. St Brigids now represent Dublin in the All Ireland Feile in Galway from 11th to 13th July. The team will compete against their hosts St Brendans, Ballygar as well as taking on Donomore McHales and Tyrone champions Errigal Chiaran in the preliminary rounds.
