Junior 9 Match Report versus Ballyboden - Sat, 12 Jun 2004

St Brigids dominated this encounter right from the start and never gave Ballyboden St Endas a chance to get a foothold in the match. St Brigids had the edge in all sectors on the pitch especially in midfield & the forward line. Neil Plunkett starred on the edge of the square scoring 1-5 and setting up many more scores.

The game played in OldCourt started at a blistering with both teams trying to stamp their authority on the game early. It was soon evident that St Brigids had the edge in the middle of the field with Ian Craven dominating and feeding the potent St Brigids forward line with ample ball. St Brigids raced into an early lead, racking up 2-4 in the opening fifteen minutes without reply. Stephen Dunning and Neil Plunkett were causing the Ballyboden all sorts of problems with their impressive off the ball running. Neil Plunkett opened his account when running onto a ball supplied by Ian Craven and slotting over from an acute angle. Stephen Dunning scored the opening goal of the goal when blasting the ball to the net from close range. The build up to the goal carved the Ballyboden defence wide open with David Smith winning the ball on his own forty-yard line and providing Keith Morris with a pinpoint accurate ball. Keith Morris sprinted up the line and fed Neil Plunkett who easily turned his man and supplied Stephen Dunning with the easiest of finishes. Keith Morris and Ian Craven knocked over points from distance and St Brigids were soon in the driving seat. St Brigids second goal came from Neil Plunkett who clinically finished the ball to the net. Plunkett turned his man on the twenty-one and sprinted clear to finish the ball to the net.

Ballyboden replied with a goal from impressive full forward Noel Heffernan. St Brigids regained their hold on the game replying immediately with four points in succession. Andy Kavanagh linked up well with James Carty to fire over from the left wing. James Carty was not to be outdone with he pointed from the resulting kick out. Neil Plunkett

was amassing quite a haul with two more points in quick succession. Ballyboden then hit a purple patch scoring 1-2 narrowing the gap to six points but this was the closest they were to get to St Brigids. St Brigids replied with a further goal from Stephen Dunning and another point from Keith Morris. St Brigids had a nice cushion at the break and could afford to take their foot off the gas but this did not happen. They introduced five substitutes who were eager to underline their credentials for the up coming Championship.

The second was very much one-way traffic with St Brigids easing to victory. Neil Plunkett scored the point of the game when winning the ball in midfield, beating two Ballyboden players and slotting over from forty-five yards on the right wing. Eoin McLoughin needed no time to get up to the pace of the game and added three further points. St Brigids were rampant at this stage and David Smith added another goal when finishing from the tightest of angles. Warren Lynam supplied Smith with a lovely ball drawing in Smith?s man and then releasing the ball. Ballyboden kept on fighting but could not peg back this impressive St Brigids side who now turn their attention the upcoming Championship encounter with Olafs on June 11th in Russell Park at 7.30pm.
