Senior Camogie verus Round Towers of Clondalkin - Sat, 12 Jun 2004

St. Brigids  2-14   Round Towers (Clondalkin) 1-6

It?s only a fortnight since the same teams met in the league with the game ending in a draw. Last Thursday with sun beating down on Russell Park both teams were prepared for a fresh game of camogie.

The Brigid?s forwards started confidently sending points over the bar from every angle.  Round Towers could only field a team of 14 players but by no means made it easy for the home side.  They marked the ?Blanchardstown belles? well and at times Brigid?s one player advantage made little difference to the game.

The Round Towers goal keeper made some fantastic saves and confident clearances during the opening quarter it took Brigid?s about 15 minutes to find the back of the net with a well taken goal by Aoife Clifford, followed by points from Elaine Duncan, Paula & Trish Bruen. The half time score was 1-9 to 0-1 in favour of Brigid?s.

The second half started well for Brigid?s and there soon followed some great play that started with a clearance made by Mary Galvin from the half back line on to Christine Norton who put the sliothar into the hand of Aoife Clifford who put it over the bar for a well worked point. This was followed a by a goal from Siobhan O?Leary, Siobhan has settled in well to the roll of full forward after making the transition from corner back at the beginning of the season.

During the second half Round Towers made a forward charge on the Brigid?s back line, scoring a goal from a 20m free.  The backs held their nerve and Martina Sheridan made some great saves in goal.

Fantastic performances from Elaine Duncan who played exceptionally well scoring all her five points from play.  Also  Aoife Clifford, Paula & Patricia Bruen, Siobhan O?Leary, Debbie Somers, Davina Cummins and Danielle Powell.

Scorers: Elaine Duncan 0-5, Aoife Clifford 1-2, Siobhan O?Leary 1-1,  Paula Bruen 0-3, Patricia Bruen 0-2, Mary Galvin 0-1

Subs: Tara Carolan for Paula Bruen, Andrea Keane for Joanne Bruen and Lisa Ryan for Paula Gillhooly.
