Junior 3's versus Fingallions in Murphy Cup - Sun, 20 Jun 2004 St Brigids 3-9 Fingallions 1-3 Brigids kept their good form in this competition with a comprehensive victory against Fingallions of Swords with some good finishing and good football played. The game began with a score from St Brigids thanks to good work from Brian Smyth who fed Podge O Reilly to open their account. This was quickly followed by a left footed strike from Willa Corbett to put the saints two points up. However Fingallions were next to score from a placed ball on the twenty-one yard line. From here Brigids had a bit of a purple patch for about ten minutes. With Podge O Reilly, Stephen Cassidy and Joesph Twomey scoring a point each to put Brigids five points to one up. These points were quickly followed by a great move, which resulted in a well-taken goal. It started in the half with Collie Freeman giving a long delivery into Willie Tyrell who fed Stephen Cassidy who finished from a tight angle with his left boot. Fingallions then replied with two good points one from a free and one from play. This left the score line 1-5 to three points just before half time. But before the close of the first half Brigids scored two more points one from Willie Tyrell and one from Al Beirnie. So at half time the score line was 1-7 to 3 points In the second half Brigids continued to dominate with Al Hughes and Kevin Bonfil working hard in midfield. They got the first score of the half with a Podge O Reilly penalty after he was pulled down in the square. This was quickly followed up with a Willa Corbett point after a great pass from Niall Ryan. At this stage Fingallions rallied with a well-taken goal when a high ball into the square deceived the St Brigids defence and allowed the Fingallions man a simple tap finish. But the game was ended as a contest after Brigids were awarded a penalty when Joe Twomey was pulled down. Paul Whitty stood up to take and finished nicely to the bottom corner. The final score of the game came from Podge O Reilly who scored a point from close in after good work from Eoin O Suilleabhain. So all in all Brigids were the better team.
