Feile Hurlers - Fri, 25 Jun 2004

Alan Waters

St Brigids Captain Alan Waters

St Brigid's U14 Feile hurling team bowed out of the competition late on friday evening after going down by 3 point so the Cork Champions Na Piarsaigh. This was a cracker of a game which Brigid's led by 7 points at half time. However in the 2nd half they faced a rejuvenated Cork team and this together with the strong wind and playing up hill proved too much for a team that had given so much during the feile.

Earlier on Friday they had roundly defeated the Tipperary champions on a scoreline of 5-4 to 2-2 in a game which saw a fantastic performance from a number of key players including Daire Plunkett, Conor Woodgate, Eoin O Brien, Conor Carton, Sean Brady and Paul Clerkin. To be fair the entire team played an outstanding match and left the fancied Tipperary champions stunned at the end.

The previous evening in their opening match of the competition St Brigid's came up agains a much fancied Clarinbridge side from Galway. 5 points up at half time this looked like a certain win for Brigid's and indeed right up to the very end Brigids led only to be caught by a last minute equaliser from the Galway team. This team can hold their heads up high. They did themselves and Dublin hurling proud and were worthy ambassadors for the club.
