Junior 3s versus Stars of Erin - Sun, 4 Jul 2004 St Brigids 5-16 Stars of Erin 0-2 St Brigids Junior 3 Footballer won this match in impressive fashion and retained their one hundred percent record in this thoroughly competitive league. They dominated for long periods but they started very slowly. Stars of Erin could not find the gears necessary to match St Brigids superior fitness and football ability. St Brigids forward line impressed with slick passages of play and impressive off the ball running which paved the way for five clinically taken goals. The match was a free flowing encounter with both sides imposing their styles of play on the game. St Brigids started slowly and it took them fifteen minutes to open the scoring through centre forward Fred Lynam. Stars of Erin had several chances to score in the opening quarter but they forwards seemed to lack confidence when shooting. St Brigids soon raced into an unassailable lead when some well taken scores. Alan Beirne, Willa Corbett and Willie Tyrell pointing after fine work in midfield from Kevin Bonfil and Ciaran Brennan. St Brigids finished the half the stronger with six quick fire points from Alan Beirne (2) Stephen Cassidy, Willa Corbett (2) and Willie Tyrell. Alan Beirne's point was finished with some aplomb after turning the Stars of Erin fullback and slotting over from 35 metres. Willa Corbett finished off a beautiful move, which started in the St Brigids fullback line when Tony Hughes won the ball and passed to Colin Freeman who in turn played the ball to Willa Corbett. Willa Corbett turned his man and lofted the ball over the bar. St Brigids started the second half as they finished the first when Kevin Bonfil won the throw in and passed the ball to Willa Corbett who slotted over 40 metres on his left foot. St Brigids superior fitness began to show as they constantly attacked with their half back line supporting an already on top forward line. St Brigids full forward line began to motor as both William Corbett and Alan Beirne rifled the ball to the net. Willa Corbett clinically rifled the ball to the net after making a darting run from the left wing. St Brigids were rampant at this stage and half back Colin Freeman scored a fine individual effort after running forty yards and calmly slotting over from twenty-one yards. St Brigids introduced several subs at this stage but they didn?t weaken the team any further. Damien Cunningham made a great impact, scoring two goals in the space of five minutes. St Brigids were scoring at will and the Stars of Erin player's heads began to drop. Damien Cunningham found the back of net when running onto a well-placed ball from Stephen Cassidy. Willa Corbett then pointed to widen the margin and St Brigids were cruising.
