Seniors versus Ballymun - Sat, 3 Jul 2004 St Brigids 1-16 Ballymun Kickhams 1-10 A first-half blitz from St. Brigids brushed aside the challenge of Ballymun Kickhams in this Senior Football League clash last Friday night. The Russell Park outfit tore into their opponents from the outset and, with Martin Cahill in particular enjoying a field day as he kicked 0-4 in the first period; they led by 0-13 to 0-1 at the turn. Understandably, the Saints found it hard to keep up the same level of play in the second half, and Kickhams rallied well to put a respectable look on the scoreboard. But Brigid?s were never in any danger of losing the contest, and in the end ran out impressive victors by a six-point margin. With Dublin in action against Leitrim the following day, neither team was at full strength as Brigids were without the likes of Peadar Andrews and Declan Lally while Paddy Christie and Ian Robertson were absent from the Kickhams line-up. However, the loss of Andrews and Lally didnt hinder Brigid?s, as they raced into a 0-9 to 0-1 lead after a quarter of an hour, with Martin Cahill leading the charge. Raymie Gallagher was also prominent in the early exchanges as he chipped in with two points, whilst others to shine for Brigids were Cormac Bonner, Rory Gallagher, Andrew Farrell, Jason Ward and Keith Keane. The Brigids midfield were playing their part too, as Ward and Ken Darcy dominated to such an extent that Kickhams foray's into the Saints' half were few and far between. And John Noonan who many believe holds the answer to Dublin's free-taking problems also got in on the act, contributing 0-4 from placed balls in the last ten minutes of the half to put Brigid?s virtually out of sight (0-13 to 0-1). Ballymun hit back in the early stages of the second half with three points in quick succession, before Bonner split the uprights for Brigid's to leave them ten points clear. And Kickhams were given further hope when Brigid?s were reduced to fourteen men on 41 minutes, as Declan Cahill received his marching orders. But the outcome was virtually settled with ten minutes left on the clock, when Rory Gallagher coolly finished to the right corner of the Kickhams net, before Noonan pointed from another placed ball moments later (1-16 to 0-6). Brigids sat back in the dying stages in the knowledge that the victory was secured, and Ballymun set about achieving some respectability by scoring four late points. Even a Kickhams goal in stoppage time never threatened to alter the outcome, however, and Brigids played down the clock thereafter to cruise to a convincing six-point success.
