Junior 3s versus Lucan Sarsfields - Thu, 22 Jul 2004 St Brigids 4-15 Lucan Sarsfields 0-3 St Brigids Junior 3 Footballers extended their impressive run of form by easily defeating a poor Lucan Sarsfields team. Lucan had to win this game to hold any hope of qualifying for the league playoffs but they were no match for the league toppers whose superior fitness and movement off the ball was a constant thorn in Lucan Junior 3 Footballers versus Lucan Sarsfields side. Lucan were very disappointing and seemed to lack any real passion for a game of such importance. St Brigids expected a very tough game but the game was over after twenty minutes when St Brigids lethal forwards tore Lucan's defence to pieces with two quick fire goals. Lucan started the game brightly opening the scoring within thirty seconds of the throw in. This point seemed to kick start St Brigids into motion as they quickly replied with a free from impressive full forward Alan Beirne who notched up 2-5 in total. St Brigids two man full forward line consisting of Alan Beirne and Willa Corbett was causing all sorts of problems for the Lucan defence. St Brigids added further scores in quick succession with Willa Corbett pointing after some great work from Fred Lynam and midfield workhorse Kevin Bonfil. Bonfil winning the ball in midfield and finding Fred Lynam in space who played a beautifully angled ball into the corner for Corbett who easily turned his man to fire over from close range. St Brigids domination on the field soon registered on the score board when Willa Corbett ran onto a broken ball in the Lucan fullback line to chip the on rushing Lucan keeper and finish to the ball to the net. St Brigids added another goal within minutes when Willie Tyrell volleyed the ball to the Lucan net from close range after Alan Beirne supplied Tyrell with a sublime cross field pass. St Brigids were scoring a will and Lucan had no answer for this well drilled St Brigids team. St Brigids were exploiting Lucan?s frailty in their full back line as they constantly placed angled balls into the corners for full forwards Willa Corbett and Alan Beirne. Beirne and Corbett were scoring at will and Corbett added three further points to first half tally of 1-4. Lucan had no answer to Corbett and Beirne who were roasting their markers. Willa Corbett scoring the pick of the points. Corbett ran onto to well-placed ball from hard working half forward Stephen Cassidy. Corbett collected the ball on the end line and easily brushed aside his marker to point. Beirne also added two further points to his tally as St Brigids upped the tempo further. Stephen Cassidy finished off the St Brigids scoring spree for the first half when he lofted the ball over the ball after midfielder Ciaran Brennan jumped highest to win the Lucan kick out. Brennan supplied on running forward Cassidy with a well-placed ball and Cassidy had the simplest of tasks to finish the move. Lucan responded with two late points to finish the half trailing by eleven points on a score-line of 2-8 to 0-3. Lucan had no answer for the St Brigids forward line who impressed with slick passages of play and impressive off the ball running which paved the way for two clinically taken goals. St Brigids started the second half as they finished the first when Kevin Bonfil won the throw in and passed the ball to Stephen Cassidy who slotted over 30 metres on his right foot. St Brigids superior fitness began to show as they constantly attacked with their half back line supporting an already on top forward line. Wingbacks Colin Freeman and David Smyth attacking at any given-moment. Beirne scored the first of his two goals within minutes of the throw-in. Beirne ran onto a fisted pass from Kevin Bonfil and gave the Lucan keeper no chance as he blasted the ball to the left corner of the net to push St Brigids further ahead. St Brigids forward line really was motoring as William Corbett, Willie Tyrell and Alan Beirne added further points to their impressive tallies. St Brigids introduced several subs at this stage but they didn?t weaken the team any further. St Brigids finished the game as strong as they started to win this match deservedly.
