Junior 3s versus Templeogue Synge Street - Tue, 17 Aug 2004 St Brigids 3-12 Templeogue Synge Street 1-9 St Brigids Junior 3 Footballers won this tough hard hitting match in impressive fashion and retained their one hundred percent record in this thoroughly competitive league. They dominated for long periods but at times, fails to press home their advantage maybe due to the fact that it was there first game in three weeks. Synge Street could not find the gears necessary to match St Brigids superior fitness and football ability especially in the final fifteen minutes after fighting hard to draw level. St Brigids forward line impressed with slick passages of play and impressive off the ball running which paved the way for three clinically taken goals. The match was a free flowing encounter with both sides imposing their styles of play on the game. Templeogue opened their account within minutes of the throw-in. Midfielder John Doherty pointing from long range after some great work in midfield by Nigel Kane. St Brigids started slowly and it took them fifteen minutes to open the scoring through centre forward Fred Lynam. Synge Street had several chances to score in the opening quarter but they forwards seemed to lack confidence when shooting. St Brigids soon raced into quick fire lead with some well-taken scores from Alan Beirne, Willa Corbett and Stephen Cassidy pointing after fine work in midfield from Kevin Bonfil and Ciaran Brennan. The Synge Street fullback line was showing signs of frailty and the St Brigids team sensed this. They continually pumped the ball into the full forward line where a man was always in space. St Brigids were soon rewarded for these pinpoint accurate balls with a goal when Alan Beirne ran onto a ball in the corner and he supplied the on running full forward Willa Corbett who clinically finished the ball to the net. Synge Street replied with two fine points from impressive full forward Conor Duggan. St Brigids finished the half the stronger with three quick fire points from Alan Beirne, Stephen Cassidy, Willa Corbett. Alan Beirne?s point was finished with some aplomb after turning the Synge Street fullback and slotting over from 35 metres. Willa Corbett finished off a beautiful move, which started in the St Brigids fullback line when Tony Hughes won the ball and passed to Colin Freeman who in turn played the ball to Willa Corbett. Willa Corbett turned his man and lofted the ball over the bar. St Brigids started the second half very slowly and Synge Street took advantage. They drew level within fifteen minutes of the restart. Full forward Conor Duggan rifling the ball to the St Brigids net after a mix up in the St Brigids defence. Synge Street owned midfield and St Brigids seemed to have no answer. Brigids made several switches at this point, bringing on Tim Groake to midfield. St Brigids fortunes changed immediately as Willa Corbett and Colin Freeman found the back of the net within minutes. St Brigids superior fitness began to show as they constantly attacked with their half back line supporting an already on top forward line. St Brigids full forward line began to motor as both William Corbett and Alan Beirne pointed. Star man Corbett adding to an already impressive tally. St Brigids finished the match by far the stronger team and will be a much stronger team with this match under their belt.
