St Brigids 1-15 Kilmacud Crokes 0-3

St Brigids deservedly won this encounter against a hard hitting Kilmacud Crokes side and added the Junior League Title to the trophy cabinet in Russell Pk. St Brigids dominated for long periods of the game and the result was never in doubt right from the offset. The foundation for this result was the solid back line that enabled St Brigids to launch wave upon wave of attacks against a bewildered Kilmacud Crokes side. St Brigids forwards were very clinical and their movement spread-eagled the Kilmacud Crokes defence. Ali Waters and Vinnie Bruen dominated midfield for St Brigids and Kilmacud Crokes had no answer to this improving St Brigids who are peaking at the right time of the year. Brian Hanley & Aidan O Leary had great games, always posing a threat in the Kilmacud full back line. The St Brigids first touch was crisp which always gave them the extra second to look up and pick out a free man. St Brigids played with real championship vigour and intensity not allowing Kilmacud Crokes to get a foothold in the game.

Kilmacud opened the scoring in the first minute through wing forward Nigel Tobin but St Brigids responded quickly and within ten minutes they had opened up a four-point gap. St Brigids were always first to the ball and the Kilmacud Crokes backs were finding the St Brigids forwards tough to mark. Brian Hanley opened St Brigids account with a great individual score. Hanley ran onto a beautifully floated ball from William Corbett. Hanley turned his man and rifled the ball over the bar from twenty yards. David Smith extended the lead with a beautifully lofted free from thirty yards. St Brigids were well on top by this stage and added further points. The foundation for these scores coming from great defensive play from David Brookes & Ciaran Byrne. Great hassling from Byrne broke down the Kilmacud attack and Brookes hit David Smith with a pinpoint accurate ball. Smith sprinted down the wing and played a beautiful cross field over the Kilmacud back line to the on running Neil Plunkett who pointed from close range. Kilmacud rallied and began to apply pressure on the St Brigids back line but the St Brigids young rear guard coped very well and the Kilmacud forwards were getting frustrated with the lack of quality ball. St Brigids weathered the Kilmacud Crokes period of pressure and were soon on top again. Some great interchanging play between John Dunning and Neil Plunkett resulted in another point for St Brigids. David Smith knocked over another superb free from forty yards to lengthen the gap to six points. Kilmacud Crokes kept on fighting but could not add to their tally due to the persistent hassling and pressure from the St Brigids defence. St Brigids finished the half very strong and scored a further three points. Brian Hanley pointed from an acute angle after breaking through two tackles. Neil Plunkett added another point to the St Brigids tally, striking the ball over from distance. Brigids were playing very well but it was a worry that they weren?t scoring heavily enough but St Brigids persistent pressure eventually paid dividends when Aidan O Leary reacted quickest to rifle the ball to the Kilmacud net. St Brigids ended the first half with a comfortable lead but the platform for the lead was due to the great defensive play from all players on the team, never allowing Kilmacud to settle.

Kilmacud Crokes introduced several subs at the break and they were soon added to their tally after some neat play from Gary Long. Kilmacud Crokes revival was soon cut short when Ali Waters blocked down Kilmacud centre back John Rogers and sprinted clear to and pass to the on running David Smith who fired the ball over the bar. St Brigids regained the composure they showed in the first half and this began to show as they added two further points. Declan Maloney lofted the ball over the bar from fourteen yards after some neat attacking play from Aidan O Leary. David Smith registered his fifth point of the game from forty yards. Plunkett winning the ball superbly from Tim O Leary's puckout to pass to the on running David Smith. Seamus Lynam left the best to last when sprinting down the right wing to fire over from forty yards. St Brigids clinically killed the game off when Aidan O Leary capped a great performance with a well-taken point from close range.
