Minor Hurlers versus Round Towers in Champ 1st Round St Brigids 1-3 Round Towers 1-14 Reigning Champions St Brigids Minor Hurlers had no answer to an impressive Round Towers team who continued their rich vain of form to deservedly win this hard-hitting championship encounter. St Brigids fought hard but could not break Round Tower's domination in all area's of the field. Round Towers dominated for long periods of the game and made it count where it mattered. Round Towers were the physically stronger side and made this count when contesting all balls. The game was played with real championship vigour with tackles flying in everywhere but the referee done a great job to control some incidents that could have easily boiled over. St Brigids won the toss and decided to play with the aid of a strong breeze, which should have enabled them to build up a good lead by half time. This didn't happen as Round Towers tight marking defence kept St Brigids scoreless until the 18th minute of the first half. St Brigids showed great determination but were never let settle on the ball by Round Towers. Round Tower's opened the scoring through impressive Dublin Minor wing forward Colin Moran, pointing from distance with a well placed free. Tower's piled on the pressure in the opening fifteen minutes of the half but the St Brigids defence coped well to keep Tower's scoreless from play in the opening quarter. St Brigids were coping well defensively but their forwards weren't getting any change from a well-disciplined Round Tower's defence. St Brigids finally wilted to Round Tower's constant pressure as Tower's found the back of the net through corner forward Neil Nolan. Colin Moran slicing through the St Brigids defence to supply corner forward Nolan who finished the ball to the net with calmness personified. Moran added another point within minutes after midfielder John Carty rose well to field Cussan's puck-out and strike a beautiful cross field pass to Nolan who point from the left wing. St Brigids responded with a pointed free through wing forward Eoin Mulvihill. This point seemed to spark some life into the game as Brigids began to get a foothold in midfield. Round Tower's responded within minutes as they hit a purple patch, knocking over three unanswered points. Brigids never gave up and stuck back with a gaol through wing forward Aidan O'Leary. O'Leary rifling his sideline cut to the back of the net from the left wing. Towers responded to finish the half the stronger with two unanswered points. Round Towers were definitely the happier of the two sides at the break but they knew that they would have to up the tempo to win the match. Round Towers young rear guard were coping very well with the St Brigids forwards who were getting frustrated with the lack of ball. Round Towers got a dream start to the second half when Colin Moran capitalised on a defensive mistake in the Brigids defence to rifle the ball over the bar. St Brigids notched up two further points through Aidan O'Leary pointing from the right wing after some great interchanging play between Cillian McCann and Cian O'Sullivan. The second half turned out to more even affair as St Brigids fought to the end but couldn't find an answer to Round Tower's pace and power.
