Minor Ladies narrowly lose out in Championship - Wed, 26 Oct 2005

Minor Championship 2nd Round

Fingallians 1-13 Vs St Brigid's 2-8

The Brigid's minor ladies travelled to Swords this week to take on Fingallians in the 2nd round of the championship having had a great win over Kilmacud Crokes in the first round. However this game would prove to be a much harder task for the girls. Brigid's were doing well to begin with and there wasn't much between the teams. Although Fingallians are quite a young side, they would have a lot more experience having reached the all Ireland stages of the intermediate championship last year. Having conceded a goal and having missed a few scores early on, points from Colleen Barrett, Katie Murphy and Andrea Brennan put Brigid's back into the game although they trailed by 2 points at half time.

But the game was by far over and Brigid's battled on. They had a few shots on goal in the second half which gave Aine Davis and Leanne Green a chance to put a goal a piece on the board for Brigid's. This lead to a rally of scores from Brigid's Noelle Healy and Katie Murphy to put Brigid's in front by 2 points with 5 mins to go. However Fingallians were granted a free which Amy McGuinness converted giving Fingallians a lift. A tense last few minutes in defence and a few decisions in favour of the home side gave them to opportunity pull away and score another 3 points to finish this game with a 2 point lead over Brigid's.

It was a  great game and the girls dug deep but unfortunately for Brigid's, they bow out for this year. They are currently in joint place with Fingallians at the top of the league table this season.
