St Brigids 2-6 St Marks 1-7

The junior hurlers of St Brigid's secured a narrow win over St Marks of Tallaght at O'Toole Park last Sunday afternoon to reach the county final taking place this Saturday against Liffey Gaels.  In the end the saints led by just two points following a relatively poor second half performance that saw them register just three points in the entire half having led by six points at half-time but the narrow margin was enough to put the Russell Park side through to the final.

The first half was a one sided affair with Brigid's demonstrating their superior fitness and skills in all sectors of the field. Conor Morris made sure Brigid's were first on the score board with a well taken point just minutes into the contest, he quickly followed up with another point from a free just moments later.  Marks retaliated with two points leaving the sides level after ten minutes. A mix-up in the Marks back-line allowed Brigid's to secure a soft goal just seconds later which was topped up with another point form Conor Morris who was quickly adding to his personal tally of 1-5.  Marks were left somewhat shell-shocked by the Brigid's onslaught and had little to offer for the remainder of the first half. It looked as though the game would be over as a contest before half-time when Noel Kidd goaled for the saints leaving them six points ahead of the Tallaght side at half-time.

The second half was an entirely different affair and during the closing sages it looked as though Marks could have undeservedly salvaged a draw.  Brigid's became somewhat disjointed and were noticeably tired during the second half, while the Tallaght outfit capitalised on a number of substitutes they had introduced at half-time.  A goal that was put wide by Brigid's keeper Keith O'Neill opened the second period of play. But Marks responded just minutes later with a goal to leave just four points between the sides.  A great individual score from Neil Plunkett allowed the saints to control possession again but additional scores from Marks all from frees saw them eat into the Brigid's lead. The closing stages of the contest were nerve racking for the Brigid's supporters and team management but resolute defending from Seamus Lynam and the Brigid's back-line was enough to secure the saints a two point victory following an unusually long period of injury time.  The St Brigid's hurlers now face Liffey Gaels in the County Final this Saturday at 1pm in O'Toole Park.
