U9 Footballers enjoy challenge of Scoil Ui Chonall - Sun, 6 Nov 2005

Saturday last St Brigid's Under 9s footballers travelled to Clontarf to play Scoil Ui Chonall in bright and crisp conditions.

Pitch 1 saw a good win for St Brigid's with fine goalkeeping from Kevin Keogh who made a number of good deflections as St Brigid's stormed into an early lead with four quick scores ? two from Stephen Daly, one each from Colin Murphy and Sean Dunning. Mid-field saw Padraig Courtney, Liam Campbell and Owen McAuley consistently keep Ui Chonalls under pressure depriving them of many chances to score. Backs Alex Fowler, Conor Feeney defended stoutly helping keep St Brigid's in lead in spite of the strong challenge from Ui Chonalls.

Pitch 2 saw Scoile Ui Chonalls go into an early lead despite good goal keeping from Tadhg Brannigan.  Upfront Gary McCabe cleared well and together with Ciaran Galvin and Donal McConville consistently looking for chances to score. Mid-field saw good blocking from Conor Brown, with fine passing to Sean O'Malley from Oisin Coyle who together with David Frayne and Luke Purthill worked tirelessly to cut Ui Chonall's lead.

On Pitch 3 St. Brigid's played another strong Ui Chonalls team in a well played game with St Brigid's within a point of the opposition at half time. Playing with the wind in the second half Ui Chonalls took and kept the lead. Playing upfront Sean O'Connell, Paul Molloy and Daragh O'Neill showed some fine skills to challenge the well-organised opposition while Joseph O'Donovan Ryan's score helped keep Ui Chonalls under pressure. Ian McQuillan, Ciaran Meade and Stephen Murphy worked hard to get to grips with their opponents while Aaron Connolly, Alan Molloy and Geoff Brookes played with great heart in an effort to keep St Brigid's in the game.

Three tough games were played with Scoil Ui Chonall proving stronger on the day. While their opponents were stronger, St Brigid's put on a good sporting display. Keep up the good work, boys!
