Minor Football Champions

Well done to the Minor Footballers who superbly fought back to win the Minor Championship. It was great achievement for all involved. Great to see that 21 of the 25 players were only 1st Year Minors.

St Brigids 1-8 Scoil Ui Chonaill 0-10

A second half double from substitute stole the Minor Football Championship Title from under the noses of Scoil Ui Chonaill in O Toole Park. It was a thrilling end to an enthralling game that looked going the way of the Fairview men until Nolan's introduction turned the game on its head.

The Cussen twins - Michael & John caused plenty of problems for their opponents throughout the tie, with Michael particularly effective at corner forward, ending the day with 1-3 to his name which went a big way to securing the title for St Brigids.

Scoil had incoming Dublin Hurling Senior Manager Tommy Naughton in charge of them for the final time and they must have thought they had done enough to secure at least a replay, with all ten of their points coming from open play.

Cussen's goal came as early as the fourth minute when he cut inside on the left and powered the ball past Andy Bunton in the Scoil goal who then tipped a Colm Doyle effort over the bar as the Saints got off to a flying start.

Eoin O Carroll and Andy Reilly kept their side in it however meaning St Brigid's led by just two points at the break. Scoil led with time ticking away before super sub Nolan stepped up to the plate and sent over two bombs to inscribe Brigid's names on the Cup in highly dramatic fashion.

St Brigids: D Fitzsimons, J Jordan, C Meade, D Green, G Hughes, E Mulvhill, E Tyne, F Coonihan, P Nyland, N Davey, D O'Mahony, J Cussen, J Cowman, C Doyle, M Cussan.

Scorers: M Cussen 1-3, C Doyle 0-2, T Nolan 0-2, J Cussan 0-1
