Senior Ladies Footballers defeat Naomh Barrog in Championship

St Brigid's 1-14 V Naomh Barrog 2-2

For the third and final time this season Brigid's played Naomh Barrog in their first round of the Intermediate Championship. Conditions were mild and dry in St Annes Park, Raheny. After beating Naomh Barrog in both league and cup already, the pressure was on for a repeat performance.

Brigid's got off to a great start scoring 6 points in quick succession by Rose Holland, Caroline Deasy and Barbara Kelly without answer from Barrogs. However Naomh Barrog came back with a goal and were putting up a good fight on every part of the field. Goalkeeper Fiona Clifford denied Barrogs a further goal a few minutes later while Brigids half back Alison Kelly popped one over the bar to add her name to the scorelist and another from Caroline Deasy. Barrogs managed another goal and a point before half time leaving only a point between the sides.

Barrogs had a player sin binned at the end of the first half while Brigids used extra player Aileen Barrett up front. Brigids brought on subs Mary Galvin, Caroline McGroary and Trish Bruen at half time. A point from Mary Galvin settled the side again while Caroline McGroary caused further damage for Barrogs with another point shortly after.

Brigid's were in possession for most of the second half and a magnificent piece of work from the forward line saw a right top corner cracker from Caroline Deasy who had a super game. Excellent goalkeeping from Barrogs keeper denied Brigid's anymore goals.  Barrogs only managed one score in the the second half. Brigid's were the deserved winners. Well done to Mentors Ray Noonan and Eddie Murphy and the girls. Best of luck in the next round on the 25th May.
