Ladies U13 Footballers vs Foxrock-Cabinteely in League - Thu, 2 Jun 2005

St Brigid's: 2-2 Foxrock-Cabinteely: 4-11

Sunday 29th May is not a day the girls of St Brigid's will  want to remember.  Playing on their home ground at Tom Russell Park, the Saints went down to the visitors from Foxtrock-Cabinteely by a margin of 14 points. As injured star player Caroline Brogan watched from the sidelines, her team-mates battled to try to hold back the onslaught from the green-and-whites.  Despite some great individual performances from the Brigid's girls, they were out-played in most parts of the field by the visitors.

The first half started well for Brigid's  when ,after an initial point from the visitors, Ebun Oladeru - making a welcome return to the team - put away a point and a goal in quick succession.  This was followed by a point from Michelle O'Reilly and, in the 23rd minute, a goal from Sarah Fay.  At this point, the Brigid's girls led by 3 points, but alas, Sarah's score was the last one for the Saints for the rest of the match.  Before half time, the visitors put away a further 2 goals and 2 points.  The half-time whistle saw Brigid's trailing with a score-line of 2-2 to the visitors' 2-7.

The 2nd half saw the Foxrock-Cabinteely girls clearly dominating the field, with a goal after 6 minutes, followed by four points and, just before the final whistle, another goal.  The Brigid's girls  were unlucky that some promising efforts failed to get between the posts.  It was a very busy day for the Brigid's goalkeeper, Helen O'Connor, whose many saves helped to prevent the visitors getting even further ahead. So, a rare defeat for the girls, but a determination to step-up the training effort for the next outing.
