Senior Ladies Footballers defeat Cabinteely in Championship - Thu, 2 Jun 2005

St Brigid's 2-16 Cabinteely Foxrock/St Olafs 1-10

This week saw the Brigid's Senior ladies take on Cabinteely Foxrock/St olafs in second round of championship. The Saints had only lost one match to date but were up against an unbeaten side so tension was high in the Russell park camp. They needed to win this match to secure their place in the semi finals of the intermediate championship on the 3rd August.

Both sides started off nervously with Cabinteely having the upper hand initially. Cabinteely's Amy Connolly was causing some problems in defence. They got a couple of points and a goal early on which set back the home side but Fin Ni Dhomhnaill managed a goal in the first half to put Brigids back in the game and to finish level at half time. Brigid's were also against the wind which added to their struggle.

Second half proved to be the better half for Brigid's, playing with the wind and down the hill. They found their scoring form and Caroline McGroary, Mary Galvin and Paula Bruen popped over points from play. Cabinteely struggled to get the ball out of their half for much of the second half due to the strong wind and Brigid's Orla Brennan took full advantage of this breaking down many balls. Brigid's did not give up until the very end and finished the game with 2-16 to Cabinteely's 1-10.
