Ladies Senior Footballers advance to Championship Semi-Final - Thu, 9 Jun 2005

St Brigid's 2-12  Sylvesters 1-4

Finally the Brigid's senior ladies have secured their place in the intermediate championship semi final on the 3rd August. They will now face the weaker of the 2 finalist in Group B. It was a blustery day but over all conditions were good and dry in Russell Park. Brigid's started off great on the attack from the whistle. Mary Galvin had a chance early on but it deflected and went just wide of the post. She got a second chance a few mins later and popped it over the bar for the first point of the game. Then Aimee Molloy sent in a super ball into the box only for Fin Ni Dhomhnaill put it in the back of the net. Down the other end of the field Sylvesters full forward was causing some problems. A dangerous high ball was sent into Brigid's box which was cleared by goalie Jenny Weldon and Brid Leahy. A few mins later they scored their first point of the game. However, further points from Barbara Kelly, Mary Galvin and Orla Brennan put Brigids in a comfortable lead which was sealed with a second super goal fisted in by Fin Ni Dhomhnaill.

Sylvesters got off to a quick start in the second half putting a point over the bar early on. Brigid's answered with a point from sub Carol Ann Griffin who was in good scoring form and scored another 2 points in the second half. Brigid's settled again having most of the possession although Sylvesters came back briefly and managed a goal and 2 points in quick succession but overall their forwards were prevented from causing any serious damage by Brigid's strong defence. Orla Brennan furthered her tally with 2 more points this half while Joanne Bruen finished it off for the home side with a lovely point in the last few minutes.  Well done to all involved, a great display of skill and determination.
