U11 Hurlers defeat Naomh Olaf in exciting encounter - Fri, 17 Jun 2005
St. Brigids 2-3 Naomh Olaf 1-1 This was a classic game of hurling played in perfect conditions in Russell Park. Brigids started strongly and kept the Sandyford lads pinned back in their own half for much of the first period. In particular, Paul Winters was instrumental in driving his team forward at every opportunity. A goal from Ciaran O' Sullivan was quickly followed by a lovely point from Aaron Carolan. Despite their territorial advantage, however, Brigids lead at half time was only 1-1 to no score. The second half was a really dramatic affair which kept the spectators enthralled right up until the final whistle. Naomh Olaf put Brigids under pressure for much of the half. Time and again, the Brigids backs kept their attacks at bay. Luke Ryan, along with goalkeeper Kieran Cahill, clearing their lines on numerous occassions. However, Naomh Olaf goalled, and like Brigids in the first half, followed up with a quick point to leave the scores level with time running out. The game was balanced on a knife-edge but Brigids fought back bravely. Two superb points - one from Winters and another from Carolan - put Brigids two points ahead. Then, in the last minute, Stephen Somani secured the win with a goal. St. Brigids: K. Cahill, L. Ryan, A. Farrell, D. Greville, P. Winters, C. Gaule, C. Dolan, A. Carolan, C. O'Sullivan, L. Hawkes, S. Somani, C. Boyle. Sub: M. Kavanagh. |
