Ladies Senior Footballers defeat Parnells in Cup - Fri, 1 Jul 2005

St Brigids 3-11 Parnells 2-7

St Brigid's played their most challenging match to date in an exciting showdown against a very strong Parnells side in Coolock last week. They really showed their potential and wonderful team effort to come back from being 5 points down at half time to win this game by 7 points.

Brigid's knew it would be very tough challenge to overcome this team, a previously division 1 side. They are quite a physical side, something that Brigid's would lack on occasion. Parnells were clearly in control from the throw in with Lindsay Pete dominating in Mid field for them. They got 2 frees shortly into the match to lead by 2 points. Although conditions were very good, there was an enormous wind in Parnells favour which was having a big influence on the game. Brigid's answered with 2 points from Lindsay Kilmurray who was outstanding in this half. Parnells managed a soft goal and a point while Brigid's struggled to get the ball out of their own. Further points from Barbara Kelly, Mary Holland and Lynsday Kimurray were in vain as Parnells scored another goal and a point to lead by 5 points at half time.

Brigid's were under pressure and needed to put in a huge effort to turn the game around. Parnells opened the scoring a few mins into the half but Brigid's came back with a great goal from Barbara Kelly. Brigid's brought on subs Orla Brennan who suffered a blow to the knee and was replaced by Joanne Bruen who went on to score a goal to secure Brigid's come back. After a quick reshuffle in the Brigid's side, there appeared to be a change in dominancy. Brigid?s managed another point from Caroline McGroary followed by Goal from Mary Galvin. Brigid's had closed the gap altogether and were ahead 2points. Parnells looked tired and looked like they had given up while Brigid's kept plugging away.  Brigid's continued on their scoring rampage with 5 more points without answer from Parnells. It was a great match, they were deserved winners in the end.
