Ladies Senior Footballers vs Eadstown in Cup - Fri, 15 Jul 2005

Eadstown 2-14 S Brigid's 2-04

St Brigid's travelled to Kildare this week to play Eadstown in Cup. This team are visitors to the Dublin League and Cup competitions but they are undefeated to date. Brigid?s were missing some key players which lead to a few players playing out of position. From the whistle it was Eadstown who had possession and managed to get the ball over the bar within the first few mins. They were playing their corner forward as a 3rd midfielder and were really putting it up to Brigid's.

Brigid's were finding it difficult to settle while Eadstown were quite at ease on their own home turf. Brigid's kept the pressure on in the backs but Eadstown were hungary and were winning lots of ball and scoring points without answer from Brigid's. It was a good 20 mins before the Brigid's forwards were rewarded with a lovely goal from Fin Ni Dhomhnaill. Eadstown managed a goal and 6 points in this half to lead at half time.

Second half saw the introduction of Trish Bruen, Caroline Deasy and Jackie Kilmurray for Brigid's. This proved a good move with midfielder Caroline Deasy winning a lot of the high ball in the centre of the field. Brigid?s put in a better performance in this half with Miriam Lowry working very hard creating some scoring chances and eventually putting the ball over the bar. Carol Ann Griffen was battling hard in centre forward and held her ground very well winning many frees and scoring a point from play herself. Eadstown had taken their foot off the pedal in this half and scored only 5 points in the second half.

Brigid's were awarded a penalty for a foul on Mary Galvin, taken by Caroline McGroary which was saved by the keeper. Mary went on to score Brigid's second goal of the match a few mins later. Brigid's overall performance was way below par on this occasion. They will learn from their mistakes and will hopefully put up a much harder fight in their league encounter in a couple of weeks.
