U15 Hurlers defeat Caula with ease in League Clash - Fri, 19 Aug 2005

St Brigid's 1-16  Cuala 1-4

Just back after the summer break Brigid's showed all the signs of a long layoff but eventually got their engines going to run out easy winners at the end. Brigid's opened the scoring with a point by Niall Myron before two in reply from Cuala put them ahead. Points from Gavin McIntyre and a brace from Paul Clerkin saw Brigid's ahead until Cuala scored a fine goal to put them ahead by a point on a score of 1-2 to 0-4 points at the interval.

The half time pep talk from coach Paddy Winters seemed to work wonders as Brigid's were to claim the next 6 scores and looked to be heading for a landslide victory. A point from Daire Plunkett, 2 from Paul Clerkin who was in fine form, a goal from Philip Carroll and a point from Gavin McIntyre saw Brigid's well ahead mid way through the 2nd half. Another man of the match performance from Jamie Winters, some super running from Daire Plunkett and an inspired defensive performance from Cathal Doyle were highlights of the 2nd half.

Cuala, to their credit never through in the towel and having survived the onslaught hit back with 2 points, one from a free. Brigid's were only getting into gear however and scored five more points on the trot before two points from Cuala and a final score from Gavin McIntyre ended the proceedings.

Physically bigger Brigid's dominated in most of the key positions despite being short a few regular starters. Two more points in the bag for Brigid's though they will be relieved not to have encountered any of the big guns at this crucial stage in the season.

Scorers: Philip Carroll (1-2), Gavin McIntyre (0-4) Paul Clerkin (0-3) Daire Plunkett (0-3), Jamie Winters (0-2), Niall Myron (0-1)

St Brigids: Conor Carton, Ryan McEnerin, Sean Brady, Eoin O'Brien, Cathal Doyle, Geoff Mullen, Jamie Winters, Paul Clerkin, Conor Woodgate, Alan McCarrick, Daire Plunkett, Niall Myron, Philip Carroll, Brendan Roche, Gavin McIntyre, Conor Brennan. Subs Barry Murphy for Brendan Roche (45)
