U15 Footballers defeat Kilmacud Crokes in League Clash - Tue, 30 Aug 2005 St Brigid's 5-8 Kilmacud Crokes 2-10 A blustery Longmeadows beside the liffey was the venue for this Division 1 league clash between two old rivals. The U15 championship is just around the corner and both teams are coming back from long summer layoffs so this was an important match to see how things stood. Brigid's got off to a dream start with two quick goals. Sean Murray opened the scoring for Brigid's with a goal to be followed a minute later by a 2nd goal from Gavin McIntyre (his 1st of two) Crokes replied and the match swung end to end for most of the rest of the first half. Brigid's playing with the strong wind were slightly the stronger of the two teams and two points from frees by Cian Mullins, one by Eoin O'Brien and a cracker of a goal just before half time by the same Eoin O'Brien saw Brigid's lead by 3-4 to 1-5 at the interval. (a five point lead) At the start of the second half Brigid's were playing into a strong wind and knew they would have their work cut out to stay in the game. This Kilmacud team is one of the best in Dublin at this level and a favourite for the coming championship. Not surprisingly Kilmacud opened the scoring but far from capitulating Brigid's dug deep and hit back with 2 points from Daire Pluknett and Eoin O'Brien. Kilmacud now threw everything into attack and finally scored their 1st goal along with a brace of points. The Brigid's defence led by Alan McCarrick was dogged and determined and Crokes never looked likely to get too many goals past Jamie Winters between the posts. Niall Myron, Daire Plunkett and Cian Mullins ran up and down the pitch tirelessly right to the end and it was only a matter of time before Gavin McIntyre broke through for a 2nd goal which effectively ended the game as a contest. Man of the match goes to Eoin O'Brien for a fine tally of 2-3. Brigid's will be particularly happy with their 2nd half performance which shows that this team doesn't throw in the towel easily and it will certainly bolster them as they await the Championship draw and find out who their first round opponents will be. Scorers: Eoin O'Brien 2-3, Gavin MCIntyre 2-0, Cian Mullin 0-2, Daire Plunkett 0-2.
