Ladies Footballers show Champions class defeating Cabinteely - Thu, 8 Sep 2005

St Brigids 2-14 Cabinteely 3-03

The Brigid's Senior ladies were defending their title for the first time since they won the intermediate championship title 3 weeks ago. Although slow to get it going but once they found their form, there was little Cabinteely could do to stop them. Brigid's registered the first score of the match followed by 2 more points by Mary Galvin and Barbara Kelly before Cabinteely answered with a goal at the other end. Brigid's were lacking the flow but eventually managed to settle. Colleen Barrett was causing problems for Cabinteely using her speed to plough through the defence and scored a goal and 5 points in the first half. Mary Galvin made a few good runs resulting in a point while Lynsday Kilmurray in midfield added another to Brigid's tally. The old reliable Fin Ni Dhomhnaill found the back of the net just before half time when she intercepted a clearance by Cabinteely's defence.

Second half Cabinteely showed a little more drive but weren't strong enough to overcome the champions. Although they managed two soft goals to narrow the gap, further points from Barbara Kelly, Colleen Barrett and Orla Brennan in this half sealed the win for Brigid's. Brigid's play in the quarter finals of the leinster championship against St Mary's of Leixlip in Russell Park the weekend 17th September. Come on out and support the girls.
