Senior Ladies Footballers Joint Top of League after defeating St Marks - Thu, 22 Sep 2005

The Brigid's Senior ladies had their second encounter with St Marks this season. Brigid's had home advantage which boosted their confidence somewhat considering Marks are one of the only 2 teams to beat them this year. However on this occasion Brigid's had a full strength squad and proved themselves worthy of their county title.

Mary Holland scored the first point of the match off her left boot for Brigid's followed shortly by a free from Barbara Kelly. Marks were struggling to find fluency in their game with Brigid's midfielders Caroline Deasy and Elaine Murphy and Lindsay Kilmurray getting most of the breaking ball. Elaine Murphy had a great game scoring 2 points in this half. Marks had a few spurts of good football resulting in a goal and 3 points in the first half but Brigid's by far had more possession and were the stronger side. Colleen Barrett's quick feet gave her a tally of 3 points in this half while her minor partner Aimee Molloy also found her form scoring 3 points in the first half.

Second half saw Marks off to a good start. However excellent defending by Carol Ann Griffin and Brid Leahy stopped them in their tracks. They managed a further 3 points in this half but the gap was too wide for them to make a come back. Brigids were too strong and carried on to score another 4 points in this half, 2 points each from Colleen Barrett and Mary Galvin. The referee called the game up early as visibility was poor. This places Brigid's in a joint league top table tie with Eadestown.
