Ladies Minor Footballers defeat Kilmacud Crokes with ease in Champo - Wed, 19 Oct 2005

Minor Championship 1st Round

Well done to the Ladies Minor Footballers who defeated Kilmacud Crokes in the Championship 1st Round. The Ladies Footballers avanged last years Championship Final defeat to Kilmacud.

St Brigid's 4-11 Vs Kilmacud Crokes 1-06

Conditions were perfect in Russell Park for the first round of the minor championship tie with Kilmacud. It was a beautiful evening with a light breeze and the Brigid's girls had a score to settle with Kilmacud having been beaten by them last year in the championship Final by 1 point. The game started brightly with scores from Katie Murphy and Colleen Barrett. Brigid's were playing with more determination in the 1st half where they built up a  considerable lead following a goal a piece from Leanne Green and Andrea Brennan to go out 2-05 to 0-2 at half time.

As expected Kilmacud came out with a different attitude and looked a lot sharper. However this did not curtail Brigid's ability to score with another goal a piece from forward duo Leanne Green and Andrea Brennan, 3 points from Katie Murphy and a point from Aine Burke. Colleen Barrett and Noelle Healy also managed a point each in this half. Kilmacud replied with a goal from a penalty which was saved by goalkeeper Tara Carolan but Kilmacud scored on the rebound.

But Brigid's were well in control which gave manager Derek Molloy the luxury of making loads of changes bringing on no less than his 5 subs. Brigid's dampened Crokes' spirit and ran out easy winners in the end 4-11 to 1-06. Brigid's are looking forward to the 2nd round of the championship against Fingallians this Saturday at 5pm in Fingallians.

St Brigid's: T Carolan, M Dunne, A Davis, D Murphy, L Prior, S Barrett, C Lynch, A Molloy, C Barrett, K Murphy, N Healy, A Burke, S Lally, A Brennan, L Green

Half time: St Brigid's 2-05 Vs Kilmacud Crokes 0-2

Subs: H Nestor, L Deacy, R Jones, L Brennan, R Dowling, A Duffy
