Junior 1 Footballers ease past St Magarets in Stacey Cup - Thu, 23 Feb 2006

St Brigids Junior 1 Footballers under Noel Cassidy's stewardship got their 2006 campaign off to a good start in impressive fashion in the Stacey Cup. They dominated for long periods and they started brightly. St Margarets could not find the gears necessary to match St Brigids superior fitness and football ability. St Brigids forward line impressed with slick passages of play and impressive off the ball running which paved the way for three clinically taken goals.

St Brigids started brightly to open the scoring through corner forward Paul Whitty. St Brigids soon raced into an unassailable lead when some well taken scores.  Stephen Moore from a 45, Willa Corbett and Dave O'Connor pointing after fine work in midfield from Kevin Bonfil and Seamus Lynam. Paul Whitty followed these scores up with a well taken goal following good work by Stephen Moore. This left St Brigids 1-4 to no score up.

However St Margarets came back quickly into the game with three points on the trot from their wing forward.  St Brigids finished the half the stronger with another Paul Whitty goal and points from Dave O Connor and a great Kevin Bonfil point for the hard working midfielder. 

St Brigids started the second half as they finished the first when Seamus Lynam won the throw in and passed the ball to Dave O Connor who taped over a nice score. Next a long delivery from Al Hughes into Paul Greally set up a great move which Dave O Connor finished in style. St Margarets rallied scoring 1-2 on the trot but Brigids pulled away again with points from Maurice Curran, Dave O'Connor, Paul Whitty and Paul Greally. Throughout the game their were solid displays at the back by Tony 'Tiger' Hughes and Seamus Smith.
