Junior Ladies Footballers Produce Most Impressive Display of Season defeating Raheny - Wed, 17 May 2006

Raheny 0-4 St. Brigids 5-10

The St. Brigids junior team had their best performance of the season so far in St. Anne's park Raheny.   The girls definitely showed up with their shooting boots with no fewer than 8 players getting on the score sheet while the defence were outstanding in limiting the Raheny girls to 0-4 points.

St Brigids got off to the perfect start with a well taken goal from Leanne Murphy. The forwards were causing Raheny all sorts of problems with their passing moves and Caroline O'Reilly scored 4 excellent points. Shona Barrett chipped in with 2 points and Leanne, Katie Murphy and Maeve Callaghan also got points. The St.Brigids forwards then finished the half as they started with a goal from full
forward Yvonne Lavin. The backs kept the Raheny forwards at bay, conceding just 0-1 point for the entire half with Joanne Bruen and Sheila Cotter outstanding in the half back line.

Raheny came out fighting in the second half and scored a point before Louise Prior solo'd from midfield with the ball and scored a goal.   Shona Barrett added a point before super-sub Fin NiDhomhnaill came on and put the game beyond doubt with 2 well taken goals. Deirdre MacArdle made 3 good saves in the St. Brigids goal to ensure victory despite 2 late points from the losing side.

The team is developing well and it's hard to believe this is the girls first year playing together.   This was a real team performance with excellent support play and passing and it was great to see strong substitutes on the line who really made a difference when they were introduced in the second half.   The St. Brigids juniors will now be looking to get another victory next week to set them up for the last
championship game against St. Annes on 24th May which is a must win game.
