Junior B Footballers ease past St Vincents in Champo 1st Round - Fri, 16 Jun 2006

St Brigids 1-14 St Vincents 0-7

Three men in attack stood out for St. Brigid's as they over-ran St. Vincent's by ten points in this Junior Football 'B' clash at Russell Park. Forwards David O'Connor, William Corbett and Paul Whittey were in sensational form for the hosts on Sunday morning, as the trio contributed all but one point to their teamscause.

O'Connor claimed the goal which effectively ended the game as a contest, as the corner-forward produced a calm finish eight minutes from time to help Brigid's to a comfortable victory. The game started in nip-and-tuck fashion as, following Brigid's scores from Whittey (2), Corbett and O'Connor and a brace of points from both Colm O Monachann and Karl Kohler of Vincent's, the teams were level at 0-4 apiece after fifteen minutes.

But, as the likes of Seamus Lynam and Kevin Bonfil began to stamp their authority on proceedings in midfield, Brigid's stepped up a gear, as two points from O'Connor saw them led by 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval. And the hosts continued to dominate after the restart, as points from Corbett (3) and Whittey saw them move four points clear after 48 minutes, with Sean Filan and Kohler responding for the visitors (0-10 to 0-6).

The game was effectively over as a contest moments later, as O'Connor placed the ball into the right hand corner of the net to leave his team with an unassailable seven-point lead. Whittey continued the onslaught for the Russell Park boys seconds later, as his point put them 1-11 to 0-6 clear with just five minutes remaining. And further scores from Corbett, Whittey and Stephen Cassidy in the dying moments left Brigid's with a truly convincing victory.
