Ladies Senior Footballers defeat Lucan Sarsfields in Thrilling Contest - Mon, 3 Jul 2006

St Brigid's 2-13 v Lucan Sarsfields 0-16

The St Brigid's Senior ladies team took on Lucan in their league clash this week. It was a very exciting and enduring performance by the Brigid's ladies. Lucan were first out of the blocks with 3 unanswered points from play. Then a point from Barbara Kelly lifted the side and they gathered momentum from then on. Lucan were very strong in defence in the first half blocking many scores. The pitch was particularly small which didn't help. However Paula Bruen and Andrea Brennan managed to find a gap to pop over a point a piece for the Brigid's side. Lucan's midfield were strong with Lorna Hillery scoring most of the homesides points. Just before the half time whistle Colleen Barrett put the ball in the back of the net to bring the sides level at half time.

The second half was just as exciting with Lucan getting stuck in from the whistle. Again they scored 3 excellent points from play in the opening 5 mins but this didn't phase the brigid's ladies who came back with a another goal from Colleen Barrett along with points from Paula Bruen and Aimee Molloy. Dervla Flood had a great game at midfield along with good spells of play from Mary Galvin, Trish Bruen and Angie Fenton at full back. With 1 minute to go there was only 3 points between the sides with Brigid's in front. Lucan were given a free from the 14 yard line and had no choice but to go for goal however it was stopped on the line and the whistle was blown to finish up with Brigid's as the deserved winners.
