Junior C Hurlers draw with St Judes in Champo Quarter-Final - Wed, 13 Sep 2006

St Brigids 0-12 St Judes 2-6

A late Cillin McCann free earned St. Brigids a share of the spoils following this intriguing Junior Hurling quarter-final clash against St. Judes in Blakestown on Sunday afternoon. The outlook appeared bleak for the Russell Park boys as they trailed by four points five minutes into the second half but with Byrne and McCann pulling the strings in midfield, they rallied to level matters with two minutes remain and ensure a second day out for all involved.

The Templeogue boys began the match in superb fashion, and held a 1-1 to 0-0 lead after five minutes courtesy of a scrambled goal. But Brigids rallied in the ensuing exchanges, and pulled off a fantastic comeback to leave the teams level on 1-2 to 0-5 after 20 minutes with Plunkett (2), Mulcahy and Kidd claiming the scores.

And it got better for Brigids five minutes before the interval when McCauley pointed from a tight angle, before Judes responded with a score of their own to leave the sides level at the short-whistle (0-6 to 1-3).

Once again, Judes were quicker out of the blocks after the restart, and pulled three points clear through a goal from the penalty spot after just two minutes.

The sides swapped scores in the following minutes, as a Mulcahy brace cancelled out Judes points to leave the scoreboard reading 0-8 to 2-5 with twenty minutes remaining. But Brigids upped the tempo in the closing stages and began to dominate in all sectors of the pitch, and were rewarded as first John Dunning and then McCann dissected the uprights in quick succession to leave the sides locked at 0-11 to 2-5 after 48 minutes.

Judes appeared to have snatched the win through a fabulous point from a tight angle, before Cillin McCann last-gasp free pulled the Russell Park boys level once again.  The final whistle sounded seconds later, and no-one was complaining as all present felt a draw was a fair result.
