Junior Hurlers Produce Fine Performance to defeat St Marks in Champo Semi-Final - Thu, 5 Oct 2006

St Brigids 1-15 St Marks 2-5

St Brigid's junior hurlers secured their place in the Junior C Championship Final with a convincing victory over St Marks of Tallaght at 12th Lock last Sunday evening. A superb scoring spree from Neil Plunkett ensured the Saints never really looked threatened during their clash. Plunkett opened the scoring with a fine point from a free and added a second just moments later.

McCann dually topped up the Brigid's lead before handing the scoring back to Plunkett leaving Brigid's 0-4 to 0-0 ahead after just ten minutes of play. A near goal from Noel Kidd would have seen the Saints claim an even further lead with Odhran McCann kept things steady for the Russell Park men with a fifth point. Brigid's were dominating in all sectors of the field and didn't allow Marks any room for manoeuvre throughout the entire first half. Kidd made up for his earlier miss when he rattled the net nearing half-time.

Marks registers their first score on 30 minutes from Ronnie Kavanagh and managed two more points before the interval to keep them somewhat in the game. Brigid's led by seven at half-time on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-3.

Marks started brighter in the second period and secured a third point from a free just after the re-start. However Plunkettt's scoring spree edged the Dublin 15 men to an even greater lead with two pore points both from placed balls. A point form a 65 yard free from Kavanagh for Marks kept them in the game and when they managed a second goal past Brigid's Timmy O'Leary it looked as through there was still a chance for the Tallaght men to make a comeback with just four points between the sides 1-11 to Marks 2-4 with ten minutes remaining,

Two wides for Brigid's followed as their nerves were momentarily disturbed with Marks second goal. However Plunkett steadied himself again to take the Brigid's men home to a deserved victory with three points, one from a free in the final five minutes of play.

The management trio of Chris Lynam, Keith O'Neill and Eamon Dunning will be pleased with their teams performance in this game and will be preparing carefully for the final test of their campaign, with hopes of taking some silverware back to Russell Park this year.
