Junior C Footballers Edge Closer to League Title defeating Rivals Whitehall - Thu, 26 Oct 2006
St Brigids 4-4 Whitehall Colmcille 0-13 St Brigids Junior C Footballers took one gaint step closer to promotion for the 3rd successive year with a superb win over league rivals Whitehall. The lads are now 5 points clear of their nearest challenger with only four games remaining. The lads had to fight hard for victory on Sunday but as the saying goes "Goals win Games" was exactly right. St Brigids trailed 0-4 to 0-0 after 12 minutes with Whitehall opening proceedings in impressive fashion. St Brigids looked in trouble but the management team soon made changes & the effects were immediate. Neil Plunkett moved to full forward & three goals in a nine minute spell gave St Brigids control of the game. Plunkett opening St Brigids account with a palmed effort to the net. Andy Kavanagh soon added another after Keith Morris fed the on rushing Kavanagh who fired low to the net. Whitehall were stunned. Brian Murphy soon added to Whitehall's misery firing to the net from distance. Whitehall cut the deficit to two with minutes remaining in the first half with three fine points but Gerry Byrne added a point for Brigids to insure a half time cushion. Whitehall started the 2nd half as they started the first. They cut St Brigids lead to a single point within ten minutes. Brigids responded with a fine goal through Keith Morris. Neil Plunkett travelling over 40 yards before lobbing the ball into the path of Morris who clinically finished to the net. Whitehall again responded cutting the deficit to three but Colm Doyle sealed their fate firing over two spectucaler points to leave the lads on the verge of their 2nd League Title in three years.
