Junior B Footballers Claim Stacey Cup Glory defeating St Oliver Plunketts - Wed, 29 Nov 2006

St Brigids 2-9 St Oliver Plunketts 0-8

Two fisted goals at the mid-way point in both halves swung Sunday's Stacey Cup Final in Saint Brigid's favor. In a local derby that was doggedly contested throughout, early scores proved hard to come by until with 10 minutes gone Paul Witty glided over the games opening score. Further points followed from the reliable boot of Joe Cassidy and when Eoin O'Sullivan's effort from distance dropped on the edge of the small square, Dave O'Connor was on hand to fist home. A rare long range Kevin Bonfil point left the Saints leading 1-5 to 0-2 at the interval.

The half-time break, however, sparked Plunketts into life and three well taken scores ensured the large crowd in attendance at O'Toole Park remained gripped by this enthralling tie. The game's conclusive moment arrived 10 minutes from time when a sublime Dessie Carolan through-ball was met by O'Connor who fisted past the on-rushing keeper. A spirited Plunketts outfit refused to lie down and the deployment of a four man full forward line caused problems for the Brigid's defense.  However, with Cian O'Sullivan, Se Smith and Joe Twomey in fine form the Russell Park side stood firm. An outrageous Paul Witty point from the left hand side with his left foot settled proceedings. Upon the arrival of the final whistle Kevin Bonfil collected the first trophy of what Noel Cassidy's men hope will be the first of a possible treble this season.

St Brigid's: Stephen Moore, Tony Hughes, John Duffy, Niall Ryan, Cian O'Sullivan, Seamus Smith, Joe Twomey, Kevin Bonfil (0-1), Ciaran Brennan, Eoin O'Sullivan, Joe Cassidy (0-2), Paddy McAvenue (0-1), Dave O'Connor (2-2), Willa Corbett, Paul Witty (0-3).

Subs: Dessie Carolan for Ciaran Brennan, Mossie Curran for Eoin O'Sullivan, Brian Smyth for Niall Ryan, Mark Kerr for Willa Corbett, James Campbell for Dave O'Connor
