U13 Hurlers Produce 2 Fine Performances in Annual PJ Troy Tournament - Wed, 4 Jul 2007

St Brigids 3-9 Castleknock 1-0

The annual P.J. Troy hurling tournament which is the annual Dublin festival of hurling for under 13s was held in Whitehall last weekend. Having lost out to the hosts in the opening match, St. Brigids were out of the running for the main honours. Nevertheless, St Brigids were still placed in a tough Group B with current Division 1 leaders, St. Judes and local rivals, Castleknock, who are currently leading Division 2. Brigids started slowly against Judes and found themselves in arrears from an early stage.

Despite dominating much of the possession, the Russell Park boys were unable to convert any chances and, with five minutes to go, were 5 points in arrears.  But there was lots of drama to come.  Carolan bagged a brilliant goal and this was followed by two quick points from Winters. Then, Judes were left totally shell-shocked as Henry slotted over the winning point.  The win set up a group decider with local rivals Castleknock.

The match was evenly fought throughout the ground hurling phase, and it remained scoreless until normal rules were applied.  It was then that Brigids blitzed Castleknock with quick scores from Carolan, Winters and McDonnell to lead at half time by 1-5 to no score.

The second half started brightly for Castleknock as they scored a quick goal.  However, Brigids responded well and further scores from Henry, Carolan and Luke Ryan ensured a comfortable win, as well as Group B honours, for the Russell Park outfit.
