U11 Ladies Footballers Reach Champo Decider defeating Naomh Barrog in Replay - Mon, 22 Oct 2007

St. Brigids 7-6 Naomh Barrog 3-3

Saturday evening in Russell Park was the venue for a classic semi-final replay between the U-11 girls of Naomh Barrog and St. Brigid's. Brigid's were the underdogs the first day but were only denied a place in the final by a last minute goal earning Barrog's a replay. The replay began with the visitors kicking the first two points as they flooded the midfield and brigid's struggled to get going. Soon however the girls began to hit their rhythm and points from Stephanie Troy (2) and Catherine Hegarty in between two superbly taken goals by Doireann O'Donoghue put the brigid's belles in control at half-time.

Determined not to allow Barrog's back into the game this time out, brigid's upped the ante after half-time and three quick fire points extended the lead. However barrog's battled back and a goal brought them back into the tie putting brigid's under severe pressure. A period of barrog's dominance was superbly repelled by the defence, marshalled superbly by Niamh O'Neill, Aideen Farrell and Danielle Scullion and with Hannah Kelly beginning to dominate midfield the tide soon turned. The games decisive moment came in the 40th minute when Stephanie Troy picked the ball up in midfield danced her way through the opposing defence and goaled to open up a commanding lead. Further goals by Catherine Hegarty, Eimear Byrne and Stephanie Troy (2) put the game beyond doubt and saw the girls through to the final.

Great commitment has been shown by the girls all year and this result is no more than they deserved. Congratulations to all involved and best of luck in the final!
