Junior B Footballers Just Edged out by St Judes in League Final - Wed, 7 Nov 2007
St Brigids 1-8 St Judes 2-9 Our Junior B Footballers travelled to O'Toole Pk in a confident mood knowing that their promotion to Div 9 was guaranteed. Judes would be a tough nut to crack considering the won the Junior C Championship this year. The last time these two sides met was in 2003 in the Junior D Championship Final where Judes won by a point, with current Judes Senior scoring sensation Kevin McMenimin scoring 1-5 on the day. O'Toole Pk was packed to the rafters not with fans but the 27 subs on the Judes bench, a sight never seen before in Junior football. Judes opened the scoring with 3 minutes on the clock but Donal Fahy soon replied for St Brigids pointing from close range. John Dunning added another point to edge Brigids ahead. Judes responded with another point from their dangerman in full forward who had already caused Noel Cassidy's side problems when he played in the AFL 5 encounter in Tymon North. The game was tit for tat with Brigids responding with a pointed free from Conor Hayes. Brian Kelly edged Brigids further ahead from distance but Judes were soon within one as Jeff Kane pointed from the left wing. Judes levelled up matters as they began to get a foothold in the closing minutes of the half but Conor Hayes again stepped one and pointed from close range. Judes suffered a body blow as Jeff Kane was then sent off from an elbow. It looked like Brigids now had the upper hand as the half time whistle blow. At the half time break Judes then called upon Dublin Minor Footballer Leonard and decided to play twelve men behind the ball and two men up. Leonard made his presence felt immediately as he tagged on 1-3 in a six minute spell. Brigids where not to be detered as Neil Plunkett found the back on the net to leave the scores 1-8 to 1-5. Brigids were pressing Judes hard and Conor Morris narrowed the lead to two with a point. Judes were panicking and soon introduced more subs. Judes sealed the game with a break away goal in the dying seconds. |
