St Brigids U10 Camogie Shine in the Phoenix Park Blitz - Thu, 15 Nov 2007

Aine Hourihan, Maria Maxwell, Mikaela Griffin, and Kate Elliott, Aimee Kelleher, Caragh Courtney, Ellen Bolger, Lucy Bolger and Catherine O'Connell, and coaches John Bolger and Kevin Elliott.

St Brigids entered a team in the development section of the recent under age blitz in the Phoenix Park. The team was mainly drawn from the very youngest girls in our under 10 squad - with some as young as six.

The opening match pitted St Brigids against Setanta who had to play shortly after a tough match against Nh Olaf. The very brief rest proved hard for Setanta. Early goals from a strong St Brigids forward line settled the team and allowed coaches Kevin Elliott and John Bolger make plenty of changes without affecting the fluidity of the team.

Brigids second match saw Brigids play Nh Olaf - this time Brigids suffered from the very short break. Olaf's put on a lot of early pressure and resolute defending by the St Brigids defence ensured the match remained scoreless at half time. At the other end St Brigids had very few clear cut chances. Half time gave a chance to reshape the team to a more attacking formation and the changes paid off when Lucy Bolger, now operating on midfield, got up to support her forwards and drove a great shot to the net.

After that superb defending saw Brigids home with a tight 1-0 win. St Brigids then had a rest while Olafs and Setanta played for a second time. St Brigids and Setanta then closed out their pool of the blitz with another win for St Brigids. This was a great competition for the girls where they won all of their matches and it augurs well for the development of camogie in the club.
