U21 Footballers Advance to Champo Semi-Finals defeating Cuala - Mon, 26 Nov 2007 St Brigids 2-9 Cuala 1-9 Aided by a strong gale in the first half, our U21 Footballers built up a seven point lead at half time. Two goals after 18 minutes and 24 minutes broke Cuala's resistance. Dave O'Connor finding the net after some interplay between Mark Kehir and Mick Cousin. O'Connor finishing low to the right. Lorcan McCarthy produced another massive display when breaking through the Cuala defence to unleash a rocket to the roof of the net giving Cuala's goalkeeper no chance. Cuala had opened brightly keeping matters level 0-2 to 0-2 after 15 minutes but points from Mark Cahill & Paddy Andrews added further to their half time lead of 2-4 to 0-3. The second half was always going to be a different affair. Cuala opened brightly narrowing their deficit to 5 points with Tracy lofting two points over from centre forward. Cuala were piling the pressure on but Brigids responded by tagging on three further points. Lorcan McCarthy cutting a brilliant 45 yard free in from the yard. Andrews soon added another point when cutting through the Cuala defence to point from the right wing. Andrews was to the fore again when he was rugby tackled yet again in the sqaure. This time a penalty was awarded. McCarthy stepped up and his penalty crashed off the bar and over to lead 2-7 to 0-5. Cuala battled back to narrow the deficit to 6 points (2-7 to 0-7). With ten minutes remaining, Cuala piled forward & found the net when a breaking ball in midfield found their on running half forward who crashed the ball low to Jamie Philip right corner. Brigids soon responded when Cillian McCann fielded a great ball in the half back line and fed Cillian O'Dea who found O'Connor who poiinted. Well done to the lads on their win. Its Championship Favourites Ballymun Kickhams up next in the Semi-Finals. |
