Inter 2 Footballers Show Great Grit to Fight Back Against Clann Mhuire in League - Mon, 26 May 2008
St Brigids 1-11 Clann Mhuire 2-07 Despite trailing by 2 points with 10 minutes remaining, St Brigids Intermediate 2 footballers produced a gutsy and spirited comeback to beat Clann Mhuire by a single point in Round 5 of the AFL Division 4 on Wednesday evening. The sides were level at half time, 0-5 each with Willa Corbett, Mark Kehir and Stephen Moore (0-2) grabbing the scores. The game remained level until the 42nd minute when a well taken goal put the North County men into a 3 point lead. However, St Brigids replied almost immediately when Dessie Carolan ghosted onto the back post to finish to the net from close range. A fine point from wing back Cian O'Sullivan edged the home side ahead, before a second Clann Mhuire goal with 10 minutes left Noel Cassidy's men with a mountain to climb. But climb they did, as the tireless running of the St Brigids half back line supplied Seamus Lynam and Paul Whitty who sealed a hard fought Brigids win. St Brigids: Kevin O'Donovan, Tony Hughes, Seamus Smith, Phil Kelly, Cian O'Sullivan (0-1), Allan Hughes, Joe Toomey, Paul Greaney, Dessie Carolan (1-0), Mark Kehir (0-1), Gordon Cribbon, Stephen Moore (0-2), Willa Corbett (0-1) Seamus Lynam (0-2), Paul Whitty (0-4). Subs: Kevin Bonfil for Paul Greaney (inj) Half Time: 0-5 each |
