St Brigids 1-9 Na Fianna 1-10

Trailing by 5 points with less than 15 minutes left on the clock, things looked bleak for our Minor Footballers but they fought back tremendously well to level the game with less than 5 minutes remaining but were unable to convert their possessional advantage into scores. Na Fianna started the better with the opening two scores but Gavin McIntyre opened his account before Na Fianna replied to push two ahead. Another McIntyre score saw Brigids move into gear as they soon led 0-4 to 0-3 after 20 mins. Niall O'Dea and Collie Carr with the points. Several missed opportunites followed and Na Fianna responded with the next two scores to lead 0-5 to 0-4 at the break.

Na Fianna opened their 2nd half on fire as they opened up a five point lead scoring 1-2 in a five minute spell. Brigids were under pressure to find scores as they trailed 1-6 to 0-4. The lads responded with points from O'Dea and McIntyre and looked like they had the momentun but Na Fianna tagged on two further points to push ahead. With their backs against the wall, the lads took a firm grip on the midfield as Kevin Twomeny & Cian Mullins began to dominate around the middle. Mullins driving forward at all times. Paul Clerkin narrowed Na Fianna's led to 4 points and Collie Carr soon added a third before goaling to level up the game.

It looked like it was Brigids game to win as they piled forward but were unable to register the next score. Na Fianna broke down the field to register the next two scores before McIntyre added his third point of the day. The lads kept going forward and several scoring chances slipped away from them as did their grip on the trophy they won last year. Hard luck to the lads. It was a tremendous effort to reach the final again and everyone to looking forward to all of you playing Adult Football next year. You have done the club proud.

Special thanks to Gerry McEntee, Liam Plunkett, Mick Clerkin, John Twomey, Rory Gallagher & Declan Darcy who have brought this team so far. It was great to see this team progress since the under 10 grade.
