Stephen Moore captained the team with a fine display. Congrats to all.
St Brigids claimed the Dublin Junior Football Championship for the first time since 1996 with a commanding display against a disappointing St Judes side in Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon. After a nervy opening, the sides were level after ten minutes with both centre forwards, Joe Cassidy (Brigids) and John O Riordan (Judes) trading scores. However, the Russell Park outfit soon increased the intensity and reeled off eight unanswered points inside a blistering 15 minute spell.
Manager Noel Cassidy aka "The Beard" celebrates the final whistle. Captain Stephen Moore was central to everything Brigids did in attack as his fielding ability supplied his full-forward colleagues, Colm Doyle and Paul Whitty with the possession they craved. Five points from Whitty, two from Doyle and one from midfielder Gordon Cribbon gave Brigids a commanding 0-10 to 0-02 half time advantage.
The second half began in similar fashion with Cassidy, Greene and Doyle all adding to the Brigids tally. Indeed, the score line could have been far greater had Jude's goalkeeper Niall Dervan not made several fine saves. Judes did add two consolation scores through John O'Riordan but the superb Brigids defence, marshalled by the two Hughes brothers, ensured that there was no way back for the Tymon North men.
County Board Chairman Gerry Harrington was on hand to present the Walsh Cup to St Brigids captain Stephen Moore, sparking a night of wild celebrations in Russell Park.
