Division 1 Feile Football Champions - What A Performance in Final! - Mon, 7 May 2012 Division 1 Feile Football Champions 2012
St Brigids 2-10 St Slyvesters 0-5 Click Here for Match Photos | Celebration Photos | More Match & Celebration Our U14A Footballers saved the best to last as they powered to the Division 1 Feile Crown in Parnell Pk on Sunday. The final pitted two unbeaten sides against each other. Slyvesters were very much the surprise packet from the other group beating favourites Na Fianna & Clontarf on route to the final. The lads never trailed in the final with Johnny McGuirk scoring a goal in the opening minute from a free.
Slys battled gamely to level up the game 1-1 to 0-4 after 15 minutes but a power packed finish to the first half gave our lads a 1-6 to 0-4 lead at the break. Kevin Callaghan and Jack O'Neill were covering a serious amount of ground in the middle third while Mark Donnelly and Michael Courtney were causing all sorts of problems.
Johnny McGuirk kept the scoreboard ticking over with some lovely frees. Both wing forwards Donnacha Ryan & Tiernan McGlynn were working their socks off for the team as Slys found the pressure very intense as they tended to go short with the majority of their kickouts due to the strenght of Kevin Callaghan to pluck a ball from the sky.
In defence Cian O'Sullivan held the middle very well with Slys only playing five forwards. He organised all round him to stop the quick breakout. Malachy Tighe was immense in defence in his defensive and attacking duties. Jack Barr put his usual dogged and determined display stopping all comers down his wing.
Darragh McKenna was brilliant again at full back. No man could get any change out of him. He drove the team forward at several stages. David Hawkshaw still only 12 years old was immense as usual. His tackling and driving runs inspired the team. Davy McCabe along with Hawkshaw and McKenna was great. The bench also had a telling effect as George Mukete proved unmarkable when entering the fray in the final. His sheer power and determination proved too much for Slys.
The 2nd half started in similar fashion to the end of the first half as two points from Michael Courtney edged the lads further ahead. Tagdh O'Shea was very unlucky with an injury early on. A penalty in the 32' minute from Mark Donnelly sealed the title for the lads.
Well done to the management team for their brilliant work with this team. Thanks for a great weekend and we are all looking forward to the National Feile in June. More to follow ..... |
