O Brien and the Badger stear Inter Hurlers over the line in Championship - Wed, 23 May 2012

St Brigids 2-17 St Kevins 2-08

Like a Massey Ferguson struggling out of a wet autumn bog, it took our Inter Hurlers an eternity to get motoring in last nights Junior Championship group match against Kevins. However, once they kicked into gear they were soon in the driving seat and by the final whistle, went on to claim a comfortable 2-17 to 2-08 victory. The sublime free-taking of corner-forward Eoin O Brien was key to the home side staying in contention in the opening half as his five points along with points from Shane Egan (above) and Fred Lynam left the home side only two points in arrears at the break, 1-06 to 0-07.

The second half was only 30 seconds old when Brendan 'Badger' O Halloran sniffed a goal, a score than seemed to dent Kevins confidence and when the same man burrowed his way through to snake a second goal minutes later Kevins were left with a mountain to climb. Points from Cian O Mahony, Diarmuid O Mahony and Keith Morris (above) ensured that it was a battle they would not win as their scores sealed a fine second half performance and two further Championship points for the Brigids men. The win leaves the lads in a fine position in Group B with two games remaining.

Next up for the lads is Raheny in the league this Sunday morning at 11 in St Annes Park.
