In Ronan?s memory and in recognition of the wonderful care he received in hospital, we have, with the help of an organising committee, set up a memorial fund in aid of St. John?s Ward, the only paediatric cancer centre in the country. There are on average 120 new cases diagnosed per annum and unfortunately this number is rising. There is constant pressure for space and funding. Our first fundraiser was a Charity Race Night in St. Brigid?s G.A.A. Club in October. On the night there was also a sponsored head shave when twelve of Ronan?s relations and friends lost their hair for a great cause! The event was a huge success! We would like to thank everyone for the huge response to this fundraiser. To the Club for their support, to those who gave of their precious time (and hair!) to help, who bought races, adverts and horses, who sponsored our headshavers, who made donations and who attended on the night we say a big, big THANK YOU!!! Your generosity is greatly appreciated by the family and friends of Ronan, the staff of St. John?s and the families who will need to avail of their very special care in the future. The response from everyone was overwhelming and we are delighted to announce that this fundraiser has raised over €53,000!!!
