On Sunday the St Brigid's GAA club held a camogie fun day at the Russell Park complex to celebrate 100 years of camogie in Ireland. The local St Brigid's club has been a promoter of Camogie since the club was founded in 1932 and to this day it continues to promote the game with players from as young as 6 taking part. As part of the fun day a wide range of activities were organised including fun races, novelty events and a re-union match where past camogie players of varying vintages took on the current St Brigid's senior team in what turned out to be a really exciting match. Everyone who came along was able take part in a short game of camogie at their own age group and hurleys and helmets were provided. The Barbeque kept everyone well fed for the afternoon and gallons of light refreshments were downed to help everyone cool down on what was a gloriously hot and sunny afternoon. The event was such a success that it now looks like becoming an annual event. If you would like to try out the wonderful Game of Camogie drop down to the club at any time and ask for Patsy Powell or Catherine Hayden who will find a suitable team for you to play with.
