U14 Feile Camogie Lose Out to Lucan in Feile Final

The under 14 camogie team had a great week-end at the Féile. On Saturday they travelled to Lucan to take part in the Group stages of the Division 2 Féile. They were drawn in a very tough group comprising of Whitehall, Erins Isle and Good Counsel. The first game was against Whitehall and despite falling behind early on Naomh Brid ran out comfortable winners by a scoreline of 4:1 to 1:0.
The second match was against Erins Isle and this proved to be the toughest match of the day. Again the girls fell behind and were trailing by a goal at half time. However, a great second half effort saw them winning by a margin of 3:2 to 2:0. The girls then went on to win the 3rd group match against Good Counsel to secure top spot in the group.
Our host club Lucan Sarsfield awarded a trophy to the Naomh Bríd player of the group stages and this went to Christina Schmieder who scored 6 goals in the first two games of the competition.
In the semi-final we were drawn against the St.Vincents B team and playing against a strong breeze the team were leading by 3 goals to nil at half time and ran out comfortable winners at the end to qualify for Sunday's final. Each of the 23 girls made a significant contribution to all the victories on Saturday.
On Sunday the girls travelled down to Plunketts to play Lucan Sarsfield in the final.
Again they played the first half into a very strong breeze. We were unlucky not to convert a few early goal chances and ended up trailing by 2 goals at half time and were still in with a very good chance of winning the game. However, injuries and tiredness caught up with the girls and Lucan were deserving winners by a scoreline of 3:2 to 0:1.
Despite the loss it was a great week-end for the team and supporters.
The future is also bright as the team is currently leading the Under 14 league having so far won all 7 of their games. 14 of the squad of 23 will be eligible to play in Féile again next year further outlining a magnificant performance by such a young team.
Well done girls. You all did the club proud."
